On 18 March, Twipes CEO Al Bozorgi spoke at the Future Water Association’s Water Dragons competition in London. He spoke to this year’s competitors about his experience at the event in 2018 and 2020, and provided words of encouragement, discussing how far Twipes has come since taking part in Water Dragons.

In 2018, Al and Twipes cofounder Elle McIntosh competed in the Water Dragons “Proof of Concept” event and took home first place. Two years later, with a finished Twipes product, they were named finalists for the main competition.

At this year’s competition, Al spoke about the importance of businesses and inventors being mindful of sustainability and eco-friendly materials. Additionally, he spoke to how crucial it is that the world as a whole takes better care of water systems and develops products that won’t damage sewers or marine environments.

“The Water Dragons competition has been incredible for us on our journey of figuring out how we fit into the landscape of the water system — the ecosystem as a whole,” Al said at the event. “People think, ‘Oh, it’s just a wet wipe,’ but no, you’ve got to be very mindful of how your wet wipes break down in water.”

Since taking part in Water Dragons, Twipes has expanded to the United States, gained investments from startup accelerator 43North and investment firm Morgan Stanley, increased its staff and is now beginning to enter the retail space.
